Paper Judged to Represent Significant Contribution to Water Field |
Broomfield, Colorado, USA, March 17, 2015 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced that Innovyze President Dr. Paul Boulos will be presented with the Best Paper Award for the Engineering and Construction Division of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) at the ACE 2015 World Water Event in Anaheim, California, June 8-10. Dr. Boulos wrote the award-winning paper with Innovyze Vice President J. Erick Heath, P.E., together with Laura Jacobsen, P.E. and Sri Kamojjala, P.E. of the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD), Nevada. He will receive the award during the special TEC Plenary Session at the Anaheim Convention Center. Titled “Real-Time Modeling of Water Distribution Systems: A Case Study,” the paper outlines online real-time network model development and application of operational modeling at the Las Vegas Valley Water District. The main objectives in implementing the system were to reduce water age and enhance water quality, decrease operational cost by developing improved daily operating plans and pump control rules, address planned and emergency outages, and diagnose and resolve field issues. The paper concludes that real-time modeling capabilities greatly enhance the ability of water utilities to effectively manage, operate and maintain their distribution systems, and deliver an adequate level of service to their customers. Using real-time network modeling, it notes, water utilities worldwide can progress from purely reactive to more proactive network management. “We are deeply humbled and honored to be selected for this distinguished award, particularly since the goal of this paper was to draw attention to a critical issue,” said Boulos. “Water utilities worldwide face increasing challenges to preserve the hydraulic and water quality integrity of their water distribution networks. Real-time network modeling can significantly help these utilities drive efficiency gains and become more proactive in the operation and management of their water systems. It can also help them achieve regulatory compliance, provide enhanced security and aid in the decision making processes for both network integrity assessment and financial planning. The advanced technology we discuss can create a compelling advantage for water utilities worldwide, making it easier for them to operate, manage and sustain high-performing, highly efficient water systems — imperative in today’s economy. LVVWD is a superb example of the forward-thinking utilities that are leveraging and benefiting from this approach.” For more information on AWWA, visit www.awwa.org.
