Dutch Municipality Selects InfoWorks CS for Smart Water Management |
Town of Tholen to Benefit from Innovyze Two-Dimensional Modeling Technology for Advanced Wastewater and Flood Management |
Broomfield, Colorado, USA, October 8, 2013 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced that the municipality of Tholen, Netherlands, has chosen InfoWorks CS and InfoWorks 2D to manage their multifaceted wastewater and stormwater network modeling activities. The selection highlights the unique ability of Innovyze solutions to meet the full spectrum of needs for utilities of all sizes worldwide. Tholen is a municipality in the southwest of the Netherlands made up of two peninsulas, formerly islands called Tholen and Sint Philipsland. Like much of the country, the area is vulnerable to flooding. The municipality has a population of over 25,000 within a service area of 254 km2, over 100 km2 of which is water. The sewer network is 153 km long, 98 km is a combined system with 43 overflows, and the remainder is a 55km improved separate wastewater and stormwater system with eight overflows. “The goals of the municipality are to not simply collect and transport wastewater and stormwater, but to prevent serious overflows and flooding,” said Daniel van Veen, Sewerage and Water Policy Officer for the Municipality of Tholen. “InfoWorks CS is the ideal support choice for planning, designing and operating both combined and separate sewer systems. When you add the powerful overland flow modeling capabilities ofInfoWorks 2D, you have all the tools you need to manage a sewer collection system like ours in one integrated package.” Infoworks CS provides fast, accurate and robust hydraulic modeling of complete collection system networks. This extends to full modeling of backwater effects and reverse flows, open channels, trunk sewers, complex pipe connections and ancillary structures. Urban flooding and receiving stream impact prediction, water quality, sediment transport and real-time control simulation tools all come standard. InfoWorks 2D seamlessly integrates advanced one-dimensional and two-dimensional functionalities in one environment, enabling users to model the most complex storm and combined sewer collection systems and surface flooding with remarkable ease and accuracy. Two-dimensional simulations are significantly better than one-dimensional simulations for modeling flows through complex geometries (such as developed floodplains, urban streets and buildings, road intersections and other transport infrastructure), and over open ground, where assuming either the source or direction of flow is problematic. The unparalleled 1D/2D dynamic linking capabilities of InfoWorks 2D give users the unprecedented power to analyze and predict potential flood extents, depth and velocity and accurately model the interaction of surface and underground systems. “For many years InfoWorks CS has been a reliable and trusted sewer network modeling solution for our clients around the world, and we are delighted that the Municipality of Tholen has joined that community of users,” said Innovyze Director of International Operations Andrew Brown. “Every utility has unique requirements. The flexibility of Innovyze smart network modeling solutions allows them to excel in any context to which they are applied, including Tholen’s unique challenges.” |
